SAUK RAPIDS - Sydnie Mauch had 10 kills and Allison Mueller had 7.5 blocks for Brainerd, but Sauk Rapids middle hitter Nikki Kothenbeutel was just too much for the Warriors as the Storm won 3-2 in a Central Lakes Conference match Tuesday.

After winning the first game 25-23 the Warriors lost the next two, but came back in the fourth to win 25-17 only to lose the deciding fifth game 15-9.

"We had 12 service errors compared to two aces," said Brainerd coach Jared Diem. "A lot of the errors came late in the match. We did come back from being down 2-1, but the errors hurt us.

"We had a hard time stopping Kothenbeutel. She's a great hitter and probably got 90 percent of their sets and was about 90 percent accurate with her attacks.

"We just had a hard time matching up. Sauk played great defense and moved their feet well."

Alanna Hansen had 31 set assists for Brainerd and Hallsey Olson had 16 digs.
