Shirley Brand

Shirley Ann Brand, age 78, of St. Cloud, formerly of Crosby, died on Oct. 5, 2009, at St. Benedict's Senior Community in St. Cloud. She was born on May 4, 1931, in Byron Township, Minnesota, to Peter and Hilda (Kastanek) Symitzek.

In 1981 to 1982 she worked at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, Crosby, and then at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center, retiring in 1993. In 2000 she moved to Baxter and became member of Remnant Ministry Center, taking part in the Jail Ministry.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; two daughters, Judith (Ronald) Grams, of St. Cloud, Sharon Thompson, of Merrill, Wis.; one brother, Peter Symitzek, of Maple Grove; one sister, Sandra (Robert) Dopkins, of Sauk Rapids; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Cleland.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. on Friday at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Crosby. Friends may call on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
