Warriors surprise Pierz

The Brainerd Warriors volleyball team did it.

With scores of 12-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 the Warriors defeated the Pierz Pioneers to capture their first regular season, non-tournament victory of the season Monday.

Tess Rahto finished with eight kills. Nikker Graumann led the Warriors with 18 set assists and three ace serves and Carlie Kramer led the team with seven digs.

"Tonight was an extra special win because it was parents' night," said Warriors head coach Jared Diem. "We won in the true sense of the word victory. Everything was right: The benches were cheering, the parents were in to it, the players and coaches were excited. Everyone was into the game."

Gabrielle Boser's 11 kills, 16 set assists and 3 aces and Sammi Lucking's 10 kills and 4 blocks led the Pioneers.

"Serving was key and Tess Rahto owned the net," said Diem, "Catherine Tadych was a real outstanding player for us tonight. We were down 12-19 in the fourth and final game and we came back 21-23 and Tadych got the last 3 points and a huge block to take it home."
