The U.S. Biathlon Association has awarded Mt. Itasca near Coleraine the biggest national biathlon event of the year -- the Junior World Team Trials and Masters National Championship.
There will be three races Dec. 31, Jan. 1, and Jan. 3. Last year's field included 120 athletes from the U.S. and Canada.
Facility improvements under way include a new waxing building, trail improvements and more pipe and hydrants for snowmaking on the cross country trails.
Mt. Itasca will also host the NORAM Super Tour Jan. 17-18. This event will include top national racers, as well as collegiate and top high school competitors from the Midwest.

JV boys' soccer beats Bemidji
The Brainerd Warriors defeated Bemidji 3-2 in junior varsity boys' soccer Saturday.
Brainerd scored early as Tim Lange's corner kick deflected into the net. Josh Johnson scored on a Lange pass to tie it up. In the closing minutes Johnson drew a penalty kick, and put it in goal, his 11th of the season.
Brainerd (6-7-1) played at Sartell today.
