SOLDOTNA, Alaska -- Soldotna, Alaska resident Eleanore Lillian (Smith) Dick died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at her daughter's home near Soldotna. She was 73. There will be a memorial service in Mellette, S.D., at a later date, where her ashes will be scattered over the graves of her deceased children.
Mrs. Dick was born July 17, 1930, in Spink County, S.D., to Oscar and Jean Jensen. She married George Vernon Smith on Dec. 27, 1947. In 1956, they moved to Little Falls, Minn., and worked at Munsingwear, St. Otto's Nursing Home as a cook and Twomey's Truck Stop as a waitress and cook. In 1963, she moved to Fort Ripley, Minn., and she worked as a psych tech at Brainerd State Hospital. In the late 1970s, she also worked as a drug and alcohol counselor in Knoxville, Iowa, and Santa Cruz, Calif. She retired in 1988. Mrs. Dick moved to Soldotna on Oct. 13, 2000.
Mrs. Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgia Ann, and a son Tony Edward. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and Joe Gardner of Olney, Ill., Jo Linda and Phil Seward of Soldotna, Verna Smith of Menomonie, Wis., Loreli and Neldon Bryant of Ames, Iowa, Ava and Allen Kent of Long Beach, Calif., and Bianca and Steve Hornung of Walhalla, N.D.; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Ann Smith of Beaver Creek, Minn, and Wyatt and Joy Smith of Springdale, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn and Lee Kemper of Sauk Centre, Minn., and Merry Jo and Robert Ball of Conde, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Jensen of Fort Ripley, Minn.Condolences may be sent to her daughter Jo Linda to P.O.
