Dan Hegstad was promoted to station manager of KAWB in Brainerd.
Bill Sandford, general manager of the PBS affiliate Lakeland Public Television, cited Hegstad's leadership skills and knowledge of the Brainerd lakes area business community.
Hegstad assumed the position Oct. 1. In addition to his responsibilities in corporate funding, he is responsible for public relations, marketing and supervising expanded corporate staff in Brainerd.
Lakeland Public Television serves mid-Minnesota from Little Falls to the Canadian border.
Morey Fish Co. wins two NFI awards
National Fisheries Institute recognized Morey's Seafood Solutions at an annual conference. The National Fisheries Institute presented Minnesota-based Morey Fish Co. with two of nine industry awards at the NFI's annual convention in Los Angeles last week.
The first NFI FINesse Awards recognized companies, organizations or individuals who have done outstanding jobs promoting fish and seafood. Morey's Seafood Solutions program won both the Retail Marketing and the Consumer Education Awards. The program was also a finalist in the Industry Advancement category.
Judging criteria included sales measurement, strategic thought process, and creativity.
Morey's Seafood Solutions is a fast moving training program that incorporates increasing product knowledge, teaching easy meal solutions using Morey's products, and discussing merchandising tools, display tips and promotional ideas. The seminars are based on the tastes and time demands of consumers, who want fast, easy, good meals in 30 minutes or less.
LF names employee of the month
LITTLE FALLS -- Ellen LeBlanc, Little Falls, was named employee of the month for October by the Little Falls Chamber of Commerce.
LeBlanc has been a sales associate at Wal-Mart for nine years. Rick Phelps, assistant Wal-Mart manager, noted LeBlanc's helpfulness and willingness to share ideas with customers.
BLADC annual meeting set
Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corp. will have its annual meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Brainerd Inn, formerly Holiday Inn.
The program will address the economic impact of the health care industry. Speakers include Tom Prusack, president, St. Joseph's Medical Center, and Curt Nielsen, clinic administrator, Brainerd Medical Center.

Business start-up class at CLC
Central Lakes College will offer a three-hour workshop called "Going Into Business for Yourself" from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, in the Business and Industry Center on the Brainerd campus.
This session covers all areas of business start-up, providing advice on how to get your dream off the ground and how to become and stay profitable. The information includes financing, business structure and required government filings.
Follow-up counseling is available from the Small Business Development Center's team of consultants.

Golden 'K' Kiwanis installs officers
The Brainerd-Baxter Area Golden "K" Kiwanis Club installed new officers, and board members at the installation meeting held October 4th.
District Nine Lt. Governor Dick Vangerud of Kiwanis International inducted new directors Len Naley, Walter Swift and Les Tangen.
New officers are George Shanks, treasurer; Gene Durham, secretary; Clayton Oberg, vice president; Jim Ditty, president-elect; and Chuck Watson, president.
Golden "K" Kiwanis is a service club made up of retired individuals interested in community service. Meetings are held Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. at the Brainerd Legion Hall.
Two recognized at accounting firm
Laura Richter, Kummet Larson Bluth and Co. of Brainerd, recently was certified as a Quickbooks professional adviser. She, along with Dawn Eklund, offers support to firms working with Quickbooks and Peachtree. Eklund recently attended seminars for both Quickbooks and Peachtree Complete Accounting programs.
