It's flu and bug season, that's all. Some potent virus seems to be taking folks out of their workplaces and keeping kids home from school, but area health officials haven't identified it as any one bug in particular through testing.

A bank money bag containing $512 was taken from behind the prescription counter at the Thrifty Drug Store in downtown Brainerd. Store manager Gus Frey said a similar incident occurred at the store some time ago.
60 years ago (1949)
Robert Corbett, northeast Brainerd, is ready to agree with the man who said partridges are cagey birds, and jet-propelled. A sound of crashing glass sent the Corbetts to the kitchen, finding a partridge on the table. The bird then flew out the window it had come in.
80 years ago (1929)
The aged proprietor of Shady Rest Resort on Sibley Lake near Pequot was arraigned in municipal court charged with carrying concealed weapons. Sheriff Theorin said the arrest was made when the man was threatening his partner with a gun.
100 years ago (1909)
(Adv.) Mrs. Billings New England Kitchen will open to the public on Thursday. Pork and beans, 'Johnny cake' and pumpkin pie will be served. Tables will be reserved for ladies.
