Don't sell yourself short

Minnesotans often understate their abilities, but Lisa Hunt, human resources director at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge said job applicants shouldn't undersell themselves in an interview.

"This is the time to really promote yourself," Hunt said.

She advises the job applicant to take the interview seriously, practice and be prepared to give examples, arrive early and dress appropriately, even conservatively.

And follow the interview or job application up with a call. Hunt said it demonstrates initiative and may help move an application closer to the top of the pile.

"I still think that gives you an advantage."
