BAXTER -- Oscar T. Kristofferson, age 98, of Baxter, passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
He was born Dec. 31, 1904, in Stavanger, Norway, to Ommund and Theadora (Ellingson) Kristofferson. Oscar immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in New York City in 1924. After moving to the Brainerd area in 1939, he married Lorena Fryklind on Feb. 7, 1942, in Little Falls, Minn. He then served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his discharge from the Army, he worked as a carpenter, contractor and construction superintendent for many years. He then worked for the Baxter School and city of Baxter serving as a building inspector and 17 year city councilman. He enjoyed many years of refinishing and selling antique furniture.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Lorena of Baxter; his son, Ron (Susan) of Nisswa; his daughter, Carol (Larry) Kargel of Lexington, Ky.; his brother, Finn of Stavanger, Norway; his sisters, Edith and Elise of Stavanger, Norway; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and 10 brothers.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter with Pastor Dwight Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the church.
