Kendal Dehler, the daughter of Scott and Louan Dehler of Isle, and Kayla Kluver, the daughter of A.J. and Laurie Kluver of Little Falls, were selected as students of the month for October by the Youth Activities Committee of the Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615. Dehler is involved in basketball, band, choir, Student Council, National Honor Society and the Prom Committee. She earned the All American Scholar Award in 2002, a National Leadership Award, was 4-H president and is a pre-school teacher at church. Dehler plans to attend Central Lakes College to earn an education degree. Kluver is involved in Wind Ensemble, jazz and pep bands, volleyball, golf, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society and Key Club. She has earned superior ratings in the Wind Ensemble contest and an award for all-conference honor band. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin to major in either social work, education, or interior or fashion design.
Justin Heitkamp, Brainerd, enrolled at Lipcomb University in Nashville this fall. Heitkamp plans to major in management.
Mark Ahlberg, Scott Beck and Erin Masimore, Brainerd High School seniors, were named commended students in the 2004 National Merit Scholarship program. About 34,000 students throughout the nation are recognized as a commended student. Commended students do not continue in the competition for Merit Scholarship awards, but are placed among the top 5 percent of more than one million students who entered the 2004 competition.
The following area students were named to the summer dean's list at North Dakota State University: Lisa Pagels, Aitkin, is majoring in management information systems; Stephanie Schrupp, Aitkin, who also had a 4.0 grade point average, is majoring in sociology; Benjamin Hooper, Brainerd, had a 4.0 GPA, social science; and Charles Toms, Lake Shore, had a 4.0 GPA, recreation management.
Charles Toms, Lake Shore, and Danielle Geiser, Wadena, graduated from North Dakota State University this summer. Toms earned a degree in recreation management and Geiser earned a degree in microbiology.
