Evelyn Smith, 72, Brainerd, went home to her Lord on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009. She demonstrated her strength and courage for five years as she battled cancer. Her surrender was resolved and peaceful in the presence of her family at home. She was born Aug. 18, 1937, at home in Wolford Township, Minn., to Herbert and Coral (Carney) Rothwell. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who gave cheerfully and sacrificially to her family and friends. She loved the outdoors - fishing, gardening, golfing and camping. She displayed her creativity in her sewing, crafts and doll making. And, she loved her hats. She was a member of Heritage Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lewis Smith; her six daughters, Teresa (Chuck) Giese, Brainerd, Minn., Marcia Smith, Minneapolis, Sandra (Ray) Rothleutner, Fort Ripley, Minn., Julia (Mitch) Taggart, Ellendale, N.D., Andria (Brent) Rivers, Brainerd, Minn., and Ginger (Loren) Bailey, Alexandria, Minn.; also her 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Tara Giese, Trista Giese, Josh Mount, Tom (Jen) Mount (Jordan and Jocelyn), Holly (Steve) Garlo (Grayson), Nicole Rothleutner, Joe Rothleutner and Tyler Rothleutner, Bridget (Paul) Huber (Aundrea and Trinity Evelyn), Brittany Taggart, Megan Taggart, and Ben Taggart, Paige Rivers and Jadyn Rivers, Samantha Bailey and Jasper Bailey.

She is also survived by her siblings, Bea Wackwitz, Bev Torgerson, Harland (Jean) Rothwell, Patty (David) Batty and Cheri (David) Price.

Services will be held Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, 11 a.m. at Heritage Assembly of God Church in Baxter, Minn. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd, Minn. Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. at Heritage Assembly of God Church, Baxter, Minn., and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
