Roy G. Norquist, 78, Brainerd, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at St. Joseph's Medical Center of Brainerd.
He was born May 29, 1922, in Brainerd to Roy Sr. and Celeste (Young) Norquist. He was a lifetime area resident and retired from a career with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He married Eleanor Stedtfeld on Sept. 17, 1942, in Brainerd. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He had served as local chairman of the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks Local No. 380, and was a member of Aurora Masonic Lodge No. 100, VFW No. 1647 and American Legion No. 255. He was past chairman of the Crow Wing County Democratic Farmer Labor Party. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, earning Eagle Scout.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Eric Norquist, Coon Rapids; a daughter, Kristine Hedren, Hackensack; four grandchildren; and a sister, Yvonne Larson, Brainerd.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home of Brainerd with Pastor David Holte officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery of Brainerd with military honors provided by VFW Post No. 1647.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home of Brainerd.
