Timothy Templeton
Tim was born on April 30, 1940, to Esther (Kleinschmidt) and David A. Templeton in Brainerd, Minn. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1958 and from St. Cloud State College in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in math. On July 11, 1970, he married Rebecca (Dennis) Iverson at Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Paul and they raised three children together.
Tim served in the U.S. Navy as a naval intelligence liaison officer (NILO). He completed a tour in Vietnam stationed near Tam Ky. After the Navy, Tim worked first for UNIVAC and then opened the Templetons' Red Owl grocery store in LeSueur with his father, Dave; brother, Scott; and wife, Becky. Tim could usually be seen at the front of the store helping customers or holding small children as their mothers shopped. The business later expanded to include a variety store and custom frame shop. After selling these businesses, Tim continued attending to his financial service customers and worked for Ann Porter's State Farm Agency in LeSueur.
Tim valued the community he found in LeSueur and enjoyed participating in it. He was an active member at First Lutheran Church. Over the years there he served as council member, confirmation group guide and church treasurer. He loved music. He sang in the First Lutheran Choir and played alto horn for the past three years as a member of the Minnesota "Over-60" Band. With them, he and Becky played during parades and concerts at numerous city celebrations throughout central Minnesota. He was also active in the LeSueur Rotary Club, serving in several offices including president and treasurer. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. He and his wife hosted nine Rotary International Exchange students in their home across the years. Tim loved the fellowship of sport and was known to be very competitive when he played. He coached boys' and girls' tennis over the years at LeSueur Henderson High School. As a youth, he competed in the Minnesota State basketball and tennis tournaments and then played tennis, golf and racquetball regularly throughout his adult life.
His family was the center of his life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His parents, and one sister, Nancy Miller, preceded him in death. He is survived by wife, Becky; siblings, sister, Jean Templeton and husband, Jack O'Leary, of Bonita Springs, Fla., sister, Julie (Jim) May, of Fort Ripley, Minn., and brother, D. Scott (Nancy) Templeton, of Aurora, Minn.; children, Amy (Henry) Garza, of Keller, Texas, Elizabeth Templeton, of Revere, Mass., Mark (Orley) Templeton, of Honesdale, Pa.; grandchildren, Samuel Garvin, Minneapolis, and Franklin Garvin, LeSueur, Minn.
