Modernizing an old Swedish bread recipe
Isn't it amazing how cooking in previous centuries has changed from the way we cook today? Can you imagine having to stoke the fire in the fireplace or stove to cook stews all day or bake bread. This week I would like to share with you a wonderful old Swedish bread recipe I recently received from my friend Mary Jo.

Police blotter
SUSPICIOUS PERSON - Received a report at 8:32 a.m. Wednesday from a woman on the 20000 block of Crow Wing County Road 11 who said a Census Bureau employee had come back to her residence after being told to leave Tuesday. A deputy checked the area and was unable to locate the census employee's vehicle and advised the woman to call back if the employee returned.

POLICE BLOTTER
THEFT - Received a report at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday from a woman at Walmart Supercenter, 7295 Glory Road, who reported someone stole her shopping cart. Store video showed a different customer taking the wrong cart. That customer called police and said she was going back to the store to return the items.

Highway 210 detour in Staples begins Oct. 5
A detour on Highway 210 in Staples is scheduled to begin Oct. 5 for rail crossing work, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported.

For years, while ACORN - the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - was involved in questionable activities, Congress turned a blind eye to the group. Millions of dollars in federal funds continued to flow to ACORN.

Time for a new Afghanistan policy
The terrorist attack on Ismail Khan earlier this week underscores the imminent danger that threatens Afghanistan: fragmentation of the country and the Afghans. The United States will never be able to leave Afghanistan with honor unless there is a coherent government that is generally acceptable to most Afghans.
