Fishing report
Outdoor News
BRAINERD/NISSWA AREA
Walleyes are hitting Lindy Rigs and redtails on Gull Lake in 18 to 35 feet. Jigs and rainbow minnows also have produced walleyes on North Long Lake in 20 to 35 feet. Large sucker minnows are producing pike in the shallow weeds of most lakes. Crappies are being found in 10 to 15 feet on most small lakes and the bass bite is going strong throughout the area.
LAKE MILLE LACS
East - Walleye action has improved a bit during the evening hours on the five- to eight-foot rocks with crankbaits or slip bobbers and leeches. During the day, work the deep gravel for a few fish. Muskie activity remains limited, but catching perch is an option in the bays over nine to 12 feet with minnows.
West - The big northern pike have started hitting on the weedlines of St. Alban's Bay in 11 feet. The number of walleye anglers has been so limited that it's been tough to gauge the walleye bite. A few guys have been trolling crankbaits on the rocks late at night and catching an occasional fish. Perch and muskie reports also have been limited.
LEECH LAKE AREA
Walleyes are hitting a jig and minnow in seven to 12 feet near Goose Island, the Hardwoods, and the Meadows. Sugar Point and Battle Point also are worth noting when the wind is blowing into these areas. Work the weeds in the narrows for perch and the majority of muskies being raised and caught are coming from Portage Bay.
LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH
The best walleye and perch action is taking place in eight to 12 feet. Work the points, shoreline breaks, and weedlines with a jig and minnow. Better areas this week have been the Bird Houses, Little Stoney Point, Sugar Point, Mallard Point, and the Highbanks area. Minnows also have produced northern pike, most of which are mixed with the walleyes.
CROSBY AREA
A jig and redtail is producing walleyes in 22 to 24 feet during the day. At night, you'll find walleyes as shallow as six feet. Better lakes this week include Rabbit, Serpent, and Pelican. Look for suspended crappies over 20 to 24 feet on Rabbit and Serpent as well. Bluegill action is going strong in eight to 12 feet on Mahnomen Lake and Black Hoof Lake. Grouse hunters are seeing more birds now that the leaves are falling.
EMILY/OUTING AREA
There's an evening walleye bite with minnows and jigs on the upper end of Roosevelt Lake in 12 to 14 feet. Bass continue to hit topwaters on the shallow weedlines of Ruth Lake, East Fox Lake, and West Fox Lake. Look for suspended crappies over 14 to 18 feet on Eagle Lake. Minnows are producing good-sized pike on the weedlines of Lake Emily, Mitchell Lake, and Ruth Lake.
HACKENSACK AREA
Walleye action has improved with minnows in 18 to 24 feet at Ten Mile Lake, Birch Lake, and Woman Lake. The weedlines of Ten Mile also have provided a consistent northern pike bite. Crappie action has improved on most lakes in 12 to 14 feet with small jigs and minnows.
