The annual Brainerd Writers' Alliance meeting will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Central Lakes College lecture hall in Brainerd.
Admission is $20 for non-members, $5 for students and BWA members and free to writers who entered the contest.
Registration will be at 9 a.m.; Erin Hart, author of the crime novels "Haunted Ground" and "Lake of Sorrows," will speak at 10 a.m.; lunch will be at noon; and contest winners will read their entries at 1:30 p.m.
Contest winners are as follows.
Poetry: "Alzheimers, Early Onset" by Candace Simar (first place), "Frost Warning Tonight" by Marianne McNamara (second); "Snow Squalls" and "The Ring Bearer" by Teresa B. Falsani and "The Granary" by Rosa Carlisle (honorable mentions).
Creative nonfiction/memoir: "Undone" by Katherine Schaefer (first), "Kambich Pham" by Luke Anderson (second).
Essay: "Celebrating Winter: Musher and Dogs" by Judith Schiller (first), "Micro-Gardening on the Blue-Green Marble" by Toni Easterson (second); "What Price Survival" by Dennis Herschbach and "Haiku Hints: About Creative Process" by Georgia A. Greeley (honorable mentions).
Short fiction: "Corn Syrup" by Deanna Perchyshyn (first), "Electronic Reunion" by Niomi Rohn Phillips (second); "The Massacre at Clark Lake Creek" by Derrick Paulson, "Boss Cat" by Nina Bayer and "Choices" by Dennis Herschbach (honorable mentions).

Hove to give Book Talk
CROSSLAKE - J.B. Hove, the author of "From Scandinavian Shores," will be featured in the Book Talk series at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Crosslake Community Center.
Admission is free and copies of the author's book will be available for purchase and signing.
The book is an account of emigrants from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
