Painter, wood carver to exhibit work

AITKIN - The "Apples to Abstracts & Turning Trail" exhibit will be on display Friday through Nov. 8 at the Jaques Art Center in Aitkin. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays.

A reception will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Stephanie Mirocha, owner of Ottertail Creations Gallery, Aitkin, will exhibit acrylic and watercolor paintings. Tom Larson will show wood carvings from his Brainerd studio, Turning Trail.

Stephanie Mirocha's paintings are part of the "Apples to Abstracts" exhibit that opens Friday at the Jaques Art Center in Aitkin.

'Marks + Meditations' slated at Ripple River

AITKIN - Work by batik artist Diane Rutherford, Grand Rapids, and wood artist Bob Carls, Bay Lake, will be featured in "Marks + Meditations" through Nov. 2 at the Ripple River Gallery near Aitkin.

A reception will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday as part of the gallery's annual open house.

Rutherford has been working in batik for more than 30 years. To create her work, she layers beeswax onto fabric and applies dye. Penetration of the cotton by the wax and dye allows for images and color to be layered into the fiber.

Carls, co-owner of the Ripple River Gallery, creates turned wood vessels, which can be found in public and private collections worldwide.

Peterson featured at Matthies gallery

"Under a Basket," featuring art by Jenny Peterson, will be on display through Nov. 22 at Evelyn Matthies' Porthole Gallery, 712 Washington St., in Brainerd.

A reception will be from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 18.

Jenny Peterson's work is at the Porthole Gallery.

Peterson's work includes acrylics, pastels and watercolor paintings, colored pencil drawings and mixed media. She is a graduate of Brainerd High School and Central Lakes College.

LCJ art featured at Q Gallery

Art that has appeared in the Lake Country Journal will be on display from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and the second Saturday of the month from Oct. 14-Nov. 8 at the Q Gallery in the Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd.

Featured artists will be Joey Halvorson (photographer), Charles Kapsner (oil painter), Jeff Krietz (metal sculptor), Tom Larson (wood turner), Chris McAllister (illustrator), Pat Miller (photographer), Kathy Porwall (painter, illustrator), Greg Rosenberg (stained glass artist, copper sculptor), Russell Sharon (painter, sculptor), Cris Smith (potter, mixed media).
