Two awarded black belts

Nick Heinecke of Aitkin and Paige Northway of East Gull Lake recently were awarded third-degree black belts in Tae Kwon Do after successfully completing testing requirements in accordance with the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.

Nick Heinecke and Paige Northway were awarded third-degree black belts for completing testing requirements.

The sophomores at Brainerd High School are students of Master Jon Engum of Engum's Academy of Tae Kwon Do in Brainerd.

Testing requirements include demonstration of their knowledge and ability to accurately and powerfully perform a wide range of Tae Kwon Do patterns and sparring techniques and to use these skills in breaking boards and bricks. The test was administered in two phases, with the final testing completed Sept. 23.

Nick Heinecke and Paige Northway were awarded third-degree black belts for completing testing requirements.

Heinecke and Northway are involved in national and international Tae Kwon Do competition. Northway also holds black belts in the martial arts of Hapkido and Kumdo (swordsmanship). Heinecke is an assistant instructor at Engum's Academy. They will travel to Korea in March 2005 for additional martial arts instruction.
