Staff Sgt. Christine M. Andersen, daughter of Jim and Maggie Stanford, Pillager, was recently named the August Non-commissioned Officer of the Month for Task Force Olympia, the command and control element of Multinational Brigade-Northwest in Iraq. Andersen is serving as the Detention Operations Noncommissioned Officer in Charge for MNB-N. She was chosen to participate in the monthly competition based on her professionalism on the job, physical fitness and military bearing. Candidates appear before a panel of senior noncommissioned officers, where they are quizzed on a variety of military subjects as well as current world affairs.
A Brainerd native, she graduated from Brainerd High School in 1997 and recently graduated from Pierce College in Washington. She is currently assigned to the Fort Lewis-based I Corps, which deployed to Iraq in January.
Pvt. Andrew Rowland, son of Steve and Alice Rowland, Pine River, recently graduated from U.S. Army basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He is currently assigned to the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md., but will be stationed in Fort Carson, Colo. He is a 2002 graduate of Pine River-Backus High School.
Army National Guard Sgt. Chad L. Olesch recently participated in a deployment to Kosovo in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia, as a member of Task Force Falcon. The sergeant, an infantry soldier with six years of military service, is assigned to the 135th Infantry, Owatonna. He is a 1991 graduate of Little Falls High School.
Army National Guard Capt. Philip P. Moran, 1983 graduate of Little Falls High School, recently participated in a deployment to Kosovo in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia, as a member of Task Force Falcon.
The soldier supported the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and helped construct and secure Camp Bondsteel. He is a division transportation officer with 18 years of military service and is assigned to the 34th Infantry Division in Bloomington.
Army National Guard Maj. Travis L. Voels, son of Conrad and Margaret Voels, Brainerd, recently participated in a deployment to Kosovo in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia, as a member of Task Force Falcon.
Voels, an intelligence officer with 21 years of military service, is assigned to the 34th Infantry Division, Rosemount, Neb.
Marine Corps Cpl. Andy A. Cronquist, son of Jill M. and Albert A. Cronquist, Brainerd, recently returned from a seven-month deployment to Afghanistan, the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, homebased at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Marine Corps Cpl. Brian D. Oberschmid, son of Connie Cockriel-Collison, Nisswa, and David Oberschmid, Spooner, Wis., assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), recently conducted operations in Najaf, Iraq, while stationed at Forward Operating Base Hotel, Iraq.
Army National Guard Pfc. Travis Edwards, a 1998 graduate of Staples-Motley High School, recently participated in a deployment to Kosovo in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia, as a member of Task Force Falcon.
