20 years ago (1989)

People in Crow Wing, Morrison, Cass and Aitkin counties tore their way through millions of pull tabs and generated $53 million in charitable gambling receipts in 1988. Some $44 million returned as prizes, leaving operators with nearly $9 million.

30 years ago (1979)

Annette Klosner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Klosner, was crowned Miss Baxter in the first Miss Baxter Pageant, held at Baxter Park. Pam Huntsinger was named first runner-up, and Annette's sister, Brenda Klosner, was second runner-up.

40 years ago (1969)

High bowling scores for the past season received an engraved ABC belt buckle - a 737 series by Bill Svendsen and a 277 game by Jack Fish. Brainerd association president Denny Flanagan will explore a possible inter-city playoff with Crosby-Ironton.

60 years ago (1949)

It happened. Brainerd won its first football game of the season at Roosevelt Field by beating Crosby-Ironton 25-0. It was their first victory since a victory over C-I nine games ago, in 1948. Jerry Hill, Jim Dullum, Harold Fremling and Al Lukens starred.

80 years ago (1929)

A change in management of the Publix Theaters in Brainerd was announced today, bringing back George Irwin, who was once manager of the Park Theater. Irwin will supervise construction of the new theater with sound, which will open in December.

100 years ago (1909)

The wangans for the rear drive left Brainerd today, the crew having started in Tuesday. A.G. Keen states that it will take until Nov. 10 to make the log drive, as it is a heavy one and the crew is small.
