BACKUS - Cletus Nusser, age 76, of Backus, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2009. He was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Mankato to Raymond and Luverne Nusser. Cletus spent his early years in the Mankato area. He was a veteran of the National Guard and U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He married Annabelle Sasse on Feb. 14, 1953, in St. Peter, Minn. They lived in Rosemount, Minn., from 1962 to 1984, where he worked for Brockway Glass for 29 years. They resided in California the next five years then moved to the Backus area in 1994. They enjoyed living in their motor home for five years traveling to Alaska, Texas and Mexico. Cletus also enjoyed hunting and fishing and made many fishing trips to Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Annabelle; children, Sharon Shelton, of St. Cloud, Peggy Goskesen (Roger), of Hartland, Minn.; sister, Kathleen Siebert, of North Mankato; brothers, Carl (Alberta), of Mankato, Eugene, of Mankato; sisters-in-law, Sue Nusser, of Warsaw, Minn., Melva Nusser, of Mankato; grandchildren, Jarrid Shelton, Annie Yant (Kevin), Sadie Howard (Jason), Nathan Shelton, Mindy Nusser, Joshua Shelton, Samuel Shelton (Diane), Jamie Nusser, Bobbie Jo Dahl (Luke Savick); great-grandchildren, Vincent Steele, Cooper Yant, Thomas Howard, Carl Yant.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven; brothers, Gerald and Howard.
Memorials are preferred to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Backus.
Services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Backus, with Pastor Ronald Carnicom officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
