20 years ago (1989)

Brainerd's Turena Johnson won the individual title at the Fergus Fall's Invitational cross country meet. Johnson, consistently ranked among the top five runners in the state, covered the hilly course in 11 minutes, 45 seconds. It was her first win of the season.

30 years ago (1979)

A 32-yard field goal attempt by the Warriors Gary Borg with nine seconds to play was blocked by St. Cloud Apollo's big tackle, Jeff Deaton. That put an end to a desperation, four-first down drive by Brainerd and gave Apollo a narrow 7-6 victory.

40 years ago (1969)

More than 22,400 trout have been placed in Brainerd area lakes and streams, according to Game and Fish official W.R. Johnson. Of the brook and rainbow trout planted, 4,400 went to six streams and the balance went into Beauty, Pleasant and three more lakes.

60 years ago (1949)

80 years ago (1929)

Hurtling 20 feet over an embankment, a car somersaulted into the Norwood Street fill near 10th Street last night, injuring its three occupants. One gave his address as the Windsor Hotel and the other two were from Gull Lake. All were hospitalized.

100 years ago (1909)

Things are becoming more active in the iron land circles around Brainerd. A drill was taken from Deerwood to the town of Garrison and will put down holes at the homestead of James Dykeman. The drill belongs to Cuyler Adams and associates.
