American Snowmobiler Magazine is moving its premier snowmobile drag race to Brainerd International Raceway next month.
The 15th Annual American Snowmobiler Mod Shoot-Out Invitational is scheduled Oct. 23 on BIR's drag strip. It's a one-day event that will showcase the world's fastest trail modified, fully modified and turbo sleds, many of which are capable of speeds well over 100 mph.
The event will also feature dealer and aftermarket exhibits.
American Snowmobiler is moving the event to BIR from Old Forge, N.Y., because of logistical and safety concerns at that race track. The organizers were impressed with BIR's track, timing equipment, track staff, seating, parking and exhibit areas.
"When American Snowmobiler came to us and asked if we'd be interested in hosting this event, we were very excited," BIR president Bill Singleterry said. "New York developed a great fan base for this event over the years, but now our fans have an excellent opportunity to see some fast sleds running on a world-class track. It should be very exciting for racers as well."
Racers interested in competing should contact BIR for rules and regulations. It's free to race as long as racers pre-register and their sleds meet specific criteria.
Racing starts 11 a.m. Oct. 23 with gates opening at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10. Discount coupons are available on BIR's Web site at www.brainerdracewayandresort.com. Students 12 and under are free.
