AITKIN -- Kenneth Gordon MacDiarmid, 81, rural Aitkin, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.
He was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Snipe Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Armand and Alice (Maycock) MacDiarmid. While still an infant he and his family moved to a farm near Balta, N.D., where he attended Gerald Lake School. He married Margaret Josephine Harvet on June 17, 1941, in Rugby, N.D. He joined the Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Islands and Japan during World War II. Upon his discharge he returned to Rugby and worked there for three years. He then moved to Minnesota and worked for Cleveland and Cliffs Mining Co. for 10 years in Nashwauk. He then worked for Reserve Mining Co. in Babbitt for 26 years. Upon retirement he moved with his family to a farm near McGregor, where he had lived for the past 20 years. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in McGregor.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Kenneth MacDiarmid, McGregor; two daughters, JoAnn MacDiarmid, Babbitt, and Judith Anderson, Coral Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, John MacDiarmid, Zepherhills, Fla.; and two sisters, Elsie Anderson, Rugby, and Jean Warbitsky, Marshall, N.D.
His parents, two infant sons, a daughter, Annette MacDiarmid, a brother, Cameron, and two sisters, Ruth and Mabel, died earlier.
A private family service will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in McGregor. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the McGregor Funeral Home in McGregor.
