OCTOBER 1

20 years ago (1980)

Work continues at the site of Brainerd-Baxter Wastewater Treatment facility in Baxter. In addition to the normal treatment now provided, the new facilities will provide advanced treatment using either filters or chemicals before the effluent is discharged into the Mississippi River.

30 years ago (1970)

-- A school night for scouting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5. This orientation night is designed to introduce boys and their parents to the world of scouting.

-- The sisters of St. Joseph's Hospital honored the hospital employees with a "Victory Buffet" luncheon and dinner on Sept. 29.

40 years ago (1960)

An electrifying 66-yard scamper around right end by fullback Dale Brown got the Brainerd High School Warriors off to another fast start here Friday night as Dick Lagergren's charges made Homecoming a solid 33-13 success over the Staples Cardinals.

60 years ago (1940)

-- Miss Beverly Swanson returned to Brainerd Sunday after a weekend visit in the Twin Cities with friends.

-- Miss Elaine Twist spent the weekend in the Twin Cities, returning to Brainerd Sunday.

80 years ago (1920)

Water is being pumped into the new water tower today. The 300,000 gallon concrete water tower of the new waterworks system near the Depot is being filled. A full tank means an added weight of over 2,000,000 pounds.

100 years ago (1900)
