FALCON HEIGHTS - Brainerd High School graduate Justin Tyner finished fifth out of 167 of the nation's top runners as the Air Force men's cross country team competed in Saturday's Roy Griak Invitational at the Les Bolstad Golf Course at the University of Minnesota.
Completing the 8-kilometer race in 24:58, Tyner paced the men's team to an eighth-place finish.

Tyner, a junior, crossed the finish line just 20 seconds behind Minnesota's Hassan Mead, the wire-to-wire leader with a winning time of 24:37.8.
Tyner weaved his way through the field during the race. He was 104th after the first 1,000 meters, 45th at the 3,000-meter mark and 14th at 5,000 meters before surging to fifth place.
His time was also fifth among the 751 runners who competed in all three divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III).
Air Force travels to Boulder, Colo., for the Rocky Mountain Shootout Saturday.
