Colleges team up to offer teacher training
Central Lakes College and Bemidji State University are collaborating to offer a hybrid online K-8 teacher licensure program as well as a "FasTrack Initiative" for those who hold at minimum a four-year college degree and want to obtain a license to teach secondary education.

Known as DLiTE, the Distributed Learning in Teacher Education program is a partnership between colleges within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system and several organizations. It delivers a K-8 elementary education degree to underserved students who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to enroll in traditional, campus-based teacher licensure programs.

An informational meeting about the programs is planned for the public. The meeting will be 6 p.m. Oct. 9 in Room C223 on the Brainerd campus.

DLite employs blended technologies in its class offerings. Students use an interactive Web site for threaded discussions, collaborative projects, assessment tracking and private folders containing their work.

Students have a Web-based electronic portfolio, provided free through our system; daily mentoring by faculty through e-mail, fax and telephone; scheduled interactive television sessions; and a series of three weekend face-to-face meetings with professors each year.

Call Rick Kangas at 855-8013 or (800) 933-0346 ext. 8013 for more information.
