NISSWA -- When Bob Holland was in seventh grade, he became interested in music when he heard a friend play saxophone with his family band. He loved listening to the sound. Holland convinced his mother that he should take music lessons. They went to Dyer Brothers in St. Paul and rented an instrument. This began Holland's joy of playing music and entertaining others.

Amanda Muehlhausen was only able to attend her first week of classes at Tulane Law School in New Orleans before fleeing the city when Hurricane Katrina struck. Now the Baxter native is living in Florida temporarily with a friend. She recently found a job there as a nanny until she can return to law school, hopefully going back for the second semester, said her father, Gary Muehlhausen of Baxter.

Elected officials are always being urged by the public to communicate and cooperate with each other, but that's often easier said than done.

If you voted for the current governor of Minnesota, King Bush and other Republicans who did not dare raise the income taxes of those most able to pay for the cost of government -- blame them -- vote those instigators out. The wealthy got their breaks in the Reagan years also. Meanwhile the poor get poorer and rich get richer -- and the middle class is nearly gone.
