John Struthers has retired after 42 years with the J.C. Penney Company. Struthers has managed the Penney's store in Brainerd for 23 years.

A group of 10 members of the Brainerd Elks Lodge led by exalted ruler, Barney Holtkamp, attended the Central District Conference at Fergus Falls.

60 years ago (1944)

A levy of 40.5 mills against 1945 taxes payable in 1946 for the purpose of raising a school fund of approximately $165,000 was voted for the public schools of Brainerd by the Board of Education.
