Edward 'Leo' Langer

PIERZ -- Edward "Leo" Langer, 98, Pierz, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at St. Mary's Villa of Pierz.

He was born July 30, 1902, in Pierz Township to Henry and Mary (Virnig) Langer. He attended country school. He married Alma M. Brummer on Sept. 20, 1932, at St. John's Catholic Church of Lastrup. They lived on the Langer family farm where they farmed, owned and operated Langer Sand and Gravel until their retirement in 1963. After their retirement, they continued living on the farm until they moved to Rose Court in Pierz in 1994. They became residents of St. Mary's Villa in 1998. Their farm was named a Century Farm in 1985. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Pierz and the Catholic Aid Society for more than 50 years and St. Joseph's Society.

Survivors include six daughters, Arleen Favre, St. Louis Park, Dolores Durand, Plymouth, JoAnn Kappes, Minnetonka, Marlys Langer, Crystal, Donnella Schmidtbauer, St. Louis Park, and Mary Kay Hanson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

His wife and nine brothers and sisters died earlier.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Pierz with Father Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and from 8-10 a.m. Friday at Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel of Pierz with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. today followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m.
