The company that published Gov. Jesse Ventura's most recent book has announced an essay contest to promote it.
Lerner Publishing Group said in a news release the contest -- titled "Jesse Ventura Tells It Like It Is" -- is open to the state's fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders. The governor will visit the school of the grand-prize winner, who also will receive an autographed copy of "Jesse Ventura Tells It Like It Is: America's Most Outspoken Governor Speaks Out About Government."
Participants will explain in 500 words or less what they would do if they were governor. Deadline for entries is Oct. 30. Official rules and entry forms are available at Barnes & Noble bookstores, or by writing the publisher at 241 First Ave. N., Minneapolis, MN 55401.
The Little Falls House Concerts series will resume Oct. 4 with singer-songwriter Peter Mayer. Show time is 7:30 p.m. in the Pine Edge Inn of Little Falls.
"Mayer's songs are fresh and unique, earthy and intimate, while inviting the listener to consider the deeper aspects of life," the Great River Arts Association, series sponsor, said in a recent news release. "He offers an eclectic blend of thoughtful songs about the collective human journey."
Mayer is a Minnesota native who studied theology before turning full time to his music in the mid-1990s, GRAA said. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors. Call (320) 632-0960.
