JENKINS -- The Veterans of Foreign Wars Northern Post 3839 in Jenkins donated $25,000 from its lawful gambling funds to victims of the terrorist attacks.
The money will be split into four equal amounts of $6,250 each for the New York Police Department relief fund, New York Fire Department relief fund, Washington, D.C., Pentagon relief, and Salvation Army for victims relief.
New York and Pentagon donations are made through the American Red Cross. The Salvation Army donation was specified to be used for victims of the attack.
Vote Yes group school referendum meeting set Oct. 4
PEQUOT LAKES -- Vote Yes, an area citizen group working to encourage a yes vote on the upcoming Pequot Lakes School referendum, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Gathering Room of Pequot Lakes School.
There will be a report on what will be included in new
referendum and a report on the May referendum vote that failed detailing what age groups voted and how many parents turned out to vote.
Leadership will be recruited and plans will be made as to how to best work together to pass this referendum.
Baby-sitter clinics set in Pine River
PINE RIVER -- Students who plan to baby-sit this year can improve their skills at a Cass County University of Minnesota Extension Service Supersitter Clinic on Nov. 13 and 15 at Pine River School.
Programs will begin at 3:15 p.m.
Students will learn about safety, emergencies, care of infants, toddlers and preschoolers, how to prepare snacks and communications with adults and children.

Programs for parents slated
LONGVILLE -- Cass County University of Minnesota Extension Service will sponsor informational programs for parents of elementary age children this fall in Longville.
Topics to be presented will include respect, responsibility, siblings, consequences and discipline.
A meal will be provided at 5:30 p.m. each meeting night, followed by the presentation at Longville-Northland Family Center, located behind Longville Elementary School.
Parents of children in any school district in the county are welcome to attend. Make reservations by calling the extension office in Pine River at (218) 587-8280 or toll free outside the Pine River area at 866-587-8281.
Meeting nights will be Oct. 2, 16 and 30, Nov. 20 and Dec. 4.
