RANDALL -- Carol Ann Kersting, 60, Randall, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at St. Cloud Hospital.
She was born Jan. 17, 1940, in Little Falls to Clement and Catherine (Nalewaja) Hassing. She attended country school in Randall. She graduated from Little Falls High School in 1958. She enrolled in St. Cloud School of Nursing where she received her registered nursing degree in 1961. She worked at the St. Cloud Hospital until the summer of 1964 when she moved to Milwaukee. There she worked at Mount Sinai Hospital until the spring of 1965. She married John G. Kersting on June 12, 1965, in St. Cloud. They lived in St. Cloud, Montevideo and Brainerd. She worked at the area hospitals. They moved to Little Falls in 1967 and then to a farm in Randall in 1973. She was employed at St. Gabriel's Hospital of Little Falls as a registered nurse in the operating room from 1967 until June 2000 when she retired due to her health. She traveled to Guatemala the last eight years with HELP International Missions Group. She worked there as a surgical nurse for the doctors who provided medical care for those unable to pay. While in Guatemala she became involved with the Godchild Project, which provides similar medical services. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Little Falls and was the last president of the Minnesota Women for Turkeys.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, John Kersting, Somerset, Wis., and Robert Kersting, Randall; two daughters, Kathleen Lawrence, Cincinatti, and Beth Gruebele, St. Joseph; four grandchildren; a brother, Edward Hassing, Randall; and five sisters, Marie Hanley, Rice Lake, Wis., Margaret Determan, West Minster, Colo., Rita Petersen, Big Lake, Agnes Lieser, St. Martin, and Jane Hemmesch, St. Cloud.
Her parents died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Little Falls with Father Leroy Kremer officiating. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to HELP International and Godchild Projects.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with parish prayers at 7 p.m., and from 8-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Shelley Funeral Chapel of Little Falls.
