Douglas F. Gutzman

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Douglas F. Gutzman, 82, Tucson, Ariz., died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Tucson.

He was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Wimbledon, N.D. He was a graduate of the Naval Academy in 1942. After serving in several posts, he retired in October 1946. He joined the U.S. Gypsum Co. where he remained for 36 years. He retired in 1983 from headquarters in Chicago as chief engineer. He retired to Tucson and became active in the University of Arizona Extension Service as master gardener as well as the Tucson Community gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, Tucson; a daughter, Barbara Valk; three grandchildren; and a brother, Glen Gutzman, Crosby.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Phillips in the Hills Episcopal Church of Tucson, Ariz.
