Park United Methodist Seniors are planning a motorcoach trip to view the fall colors with the bus leaving the church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Monday. They will return about 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Bring a bag lunch for a picnic or lunch could be purchased at noon. Cost of the trip is $20, covering transportation and gratuity, payable the morning of the trip.
Park United Methodist Seniors September luncheon
The September Park United Methodist Seniors will meet for their monthly noon luncheon on Tuesday. Following the luncheon, Mike Koehler of RSVP will be the speaker describing the opportunities for volunteering and the programs that provide services to the community. Franciscan blessing of the animals
The Fioretti Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order of Brainerd will sponsor a traditional Franciscan Blessing of the Animals at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 3 in the St. Francis School parking lot. Deacon David Brown of the Brainerd Area Catholic Churches will preside at the traditional ceremony which recalls the love that St. Francis had for all of God's creation. During the 12 years since the SFO has sponsored the blessing, dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, and even fish have received the Franciscan blessing. Rummage sale at Lutheran Church of the Cross
NISSWA - Lutheran Church of the Cross will have its annual fall rummage sale from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 and from 8-11 a.m. Oct. 3. Holding rummage sales to benefit ministries has been a tradition at Lutheran Church of the Cross since 1960. All the proceeds from these biannual rummage sales go to local, state and world wide missions. All sale items are categorically displayed to make shopping easier. Lutheran Church of the Cross is located at Highway 371 and County Road 13 (Schaefer's Corner). There will be no early sales.
Adult forum planned
First Congregational United Church of Christ's adult forum at 11 a.m. Sunday will feature a DVD speech by the Rev. Susan K. Smith. Smith is co-president of BREAD (Building Responsibility, Equity and Dignity), a multi-racial, multi-ethnic social justice organization comprised of more than 50 religious denominations in Columbus, Ohio. Smith's speech addresses the spirit of renewal that we all seek, the need for people to feel respected and the challenge of living out our faith in the world.
Bluegrass concert planned
The Crosslake Christian Assembly of God Church will host its monthly community bluegrass concert at 6 p.m. Sunday. Area musicians will share gospel songs on a variety of instruments including the mandolin, fiddle, guitars and more. For more information call Pastor Gary at 692-HOPE.
Tent City event scheduled for Oct. 9
New Pathways has announced the second annual Tent City event for Oct. 9-10 at the Brainerd Armory. New Pathways-Brainerd Site partners with area congregations to serve families experiencing homelessness in Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, Aitkin and Wadena counties. Last year, more than 150 participants spent the night in a dwelling, joined in the activities and learned more regarding homelessness in our area.
Check-in will be from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 9 with soup kitchen from 5-7 p.m., activities from 6-10 p.m., a concert at 10 p.m. and ending with breakfast and check-out from 6-8 a.m. Oct. 10. Entertainment will be SilverLine and The Pulse 100.1 broadcasting live.

Lutefisk and meatball supper
PEQUOT LAKES - The annual lutefisk and meatball supper at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes will be 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the lutefisk dinner are sold only at the door. The price is $13 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and children under 4 are free. Our Savior's Lutheran Church is located at Main and Brown Streets, one block west of the stoplight in Pequot Lakes.
Enriching your marriage by daring to love seminar
LAKE SHORE - Living Savior Lutheran Church, 8327 Interlachen Road, Lake Shore, will sponsor a seminar on how to "fireproof" a marriage from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 3.
Topics of discussion coincide with chapters in the book "Love Dare" as featured in the movie "Fireproof," with Nancy Holden, Christian psychologist, leading the seminar. The seminar is designed to be an investment in bringing out the best in a relationship. Those who attend don't have to have marriage problems.

Good News Gospel concert set for Saturday

Annual fall bazaar planned
AITKIN - The Aitkin United Methodist Church annual fall bazaar will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3. A bake shop, Grandma's attic, produce, lefse, a fish pond, craft items and gift baskets will be featured. Coffee and sloppy joe lunch will be served all day.
Book club to begin
St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 408 North Seventh St., Brainerd, is starting a book club at 6 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Tuesday. The club will be studying "The Heart of Christianity" by Marcus J. Borg.
Centennial celebratory Mass
St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School of Brainerd has come a long way in the last 100 years and is not about to slow down now.
St. Francis Catholic Grade School was opened in 1909 in a two-story, eight classroom building. The present building was built in 1952 with the gymnasium portion being added shortly thereafter. A $4.4 million improvement and expansion project is presently underway and is expected to be completed in December.
St. Francis School is picking up the pace as it enters its centennial year and celebrates 100 continuous years of Catholic education in the Brainerd lakes area. Centennial committee members are planning and organizing events throughout the 2009-2010 school year with themes of celebration, involvement and faith.
There will be a centennial celebratory Mass at 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at St. Francis Church in Brainerd. A complete list of events can be viewed on the school website at www.stfranciscatholicschool.org.
