20 years ago (1989)

Joe Gustafson was almost too busy to die. When death finally caught up with him Saturday he left behind a legacy of personal and business accomplishment. He owned the Brainerd Mall, Tyrol Hills Center and Citizens Bank building, among others.

30 years ago (1979)

A fencing operation and a juvenile male prostitution ring in the Brainerd area were disbanded today in the climax of a two-month investigation by sheriff's deputy Harold Holk and Brainerd police sergeant Glen Knight. Eleven individuals are being sought.

40 years ago (1969)

Word has been received by Dave Hassinger, county agent, that a Crow Wing county polled Hereford herd was the top such herd tested in the state in 1968. Iron Range Herefords is located three miles south of Brainerd on Highway 25.

60 years ago (1949)

One win, one loss and one tie is the record of the Brainerd Junior College Red Raiders after a 13-13 deadlock with Ely's Ironmen at Roosevelt Field. It marks three close games as the win came over Hibbing, 7-6, and the loss to Itasca, also 7-6.

80 years ago (1929)

Officials of the Brainerd American Legion post will tour the city's five grade schools to form a citywide school police department. With the approval of the police department the school officers will receive badges and be empowered to make arrests.

100 years ago (1909)

A man who claimed Aitkin as his home, and who was given five days in the bastille for public drunkenness, was released today on suspended sentence. His mind considerably clearer after a day's forced abstinence, he claims someone stole $75 from him.
