Dorothy McIntyre, co-author of "Daughters of the Game," spoke to the Nisswa Women's Club at their monthly luncheon meeting Sept. 18 at Timbermist. McIntyre displayed uniforms, shoes and a girls basketball trophy and picture from 1925. In Minnesota, girls basketball began in 1891 and stopped in 1942 before starting again the the 1970s.

People of all ages swarmed to the annual Nisswa Fall Festival on Saturday. While the event had a little something for everyone, it was especially geared toward the little ones, who enjoyed pumpkin carving , a pumpkin-seed spitting contest , face painting , crazy-looking critters , horse-drawn carriage rides and, of course, food.

Judge grants new trial in music downloading case
MINNEAPOLIS- A federal judge granted a new trial to a Minnesota woman convicted of pirating music files, ruling Wednesday that he made an error in her trial. And he implored Congress to change copyright laws to prevent excessive awards against individuals in similar cases.

If its death by a thousand cuts, the role of beleaguered Rep. Charles B. Rangel, D-N.Y., as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee has 994 to go. The latest cut came last Thursday, when the New York Post revealed that the Harlem congressman had had a broken-down 1972 silver Mercedes-Benz sedan, whose registration expired in 2004, parked in the House of Representatives garage for years. It is a violation of House rules to store a vehicle there for more than 45 days, and any vehicle parked there must be operable.
