20 years ago (1987)

Chuck Hofius, now in his 27th year of Scouting, is a firm believer in the character-building aspects of the program. He is presently assistant scout master of Troop 47.

30 years ago (1977)

Clarence and Mary Horsager, Verndale, are now in the midst of their twelfth potato harvest. One hundred of their 500 acres were planted with potatoes this year. This year's yield has nearly tripled.

40 years ago (1967)

Washington High School homecoming queen candidates are: Maria Bollig, Nikki Davis, Lannie Kittleson, Nancy Knoll, Mary Toumi, Jane Warrick and Marcia Widmark.

60 years ago (1947)

Young, 11 year-old Johnny Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver H. Scott, 514 North Third Street, with his entry "Safety," was declared to be first-place winner of the safety essay contest.

80 years ago (1927)

For sale: Have a small store for sale in Brainerd. Good location - good stock, $500 will handle.

Local news:

The double door in William Erb's harness shop is being taken out today and a wide single door put in with a panel at the side.

J. W. Koop has taken out the partition in the center of the store, thereby improving the appearance of the room.
