HACKENSACK -- James Hein, past commander of the Hackensack VFW Post 2701, recently received an award from VFW Assistant Adjutant General Ron Browning.

Hein was responsible for the VFW Post's donation to Operation Uplink, a program that provides phone cards to military personnel as they leave U.S. soil and head overseas.

Emily Charter School lists board members

EMILY -- Emily Charter School held its annual board meeting and elections last week, as well as an open house and dinner for the community.

The new Emily Charter School board of directors for the 2002-03 school year are Casey Goddard, member; Melissa Hagelie, vice chairperson; Amy Rundle, member; Cathy Sexten, treasurer; Tom Shinabargar, member; Tammy Swearingen, member; and Sara Weik, chairperson.

Board meetings have been scheduled for 4:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

The next board meeting will be 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1. The public is welcome to attend all regular board meetings.
