A very important institution in our community is the focal point of attention this week for a group of folks who have been educated in its classrooms and have profited from that education. The group is the Brainerd Community College Alumni Association which will be holding its first annual meeting and homecoming this weekend.
30 years ago (1972)
The Mary Tornstrom Memorial Scholarship Fund at Brainerd State Junior College has been increased by $400 as an indirect result of the infamous "Bataan Death March." A gift to the fund has been made by Mrs. Jim McComas and Mrs. Lee MacDonald, widows of Brainerd veterans who took part in the Battle of Bataan more than 30 years ago.
40 years ago (1962)
Late September and October often yield some of the best weather as well as the finest views in the area. Autumn, 1962, apparently is going to be no exception, since the sub-freezing temperature of a few days ago, the woods around Brainerd have become a panoramic of brilliant scenes.
60 years ago (1942)
A light snow blown by a high wind fell in Brainerd this afternoon, the third snowstorm experienced here in the last 48 hours.
80 years ago (1922)
Captain W.H. Fawcett of "Breezy Point Lodge," queen summer resort of the northern Minnesota pines, is heartily in favor of extending the tourist season to include September and October.
100 years ago (1902)
R.D. Holden was able to be downtown yesterday for the first time since his recent severe illness.
