STAPLES -- The Staples Campus of Central Lakes College will sponsor a Promotion and Marketing Workshop.
It is intended for those who have had to publicize a group event and have not quite known how to proceed, have been disappointed with the turnout or wondered if there was a better way to get the word out.
The workshop is scheduled for four nights -- from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 1, 3, 8 and 10.
The deadline for registration is Thursday. Cost is $50.

Cancer support group to host guest speaker Oct. 2
The Mutual Help Cancer Support Group will meet from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 2 at the American Cancer Society office, 17 Washington St. in Brainerd.
The group will have a guest speaker, Cindy Meyer, who will present a program: "Taking Charge of Money Matters." The purpose of the program is to help people with cancer and their loved ones learn about and better manage key money matters that may arise during or after their cancer experience.
All cancer survivors, family and friends are invited to attend.
Airport commission to meet Oct. 2
The Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport Commission will meet 10 a.m. Oct. 2 in the airport conference room.
Mentors needed in Staples
STAPLES -- Those interested in learning how to become a mentor to a child are invited to an informational meeting from 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in Staples-Motley High School Room No. 100.

Pine Grove Park Zoo celebrates day
LITTLE FALLS -- National Public Lands Day will be celebrated at Pine Grove Park Zoo in Little Falls Saturday.
National Public Lands Day is a time to show appreciation for the public green spaces in the community. Families, youth and service groups, or individuals can volunteer at Pine Grove Park Zoo in Little Falls by helping to clear trails and cut buckthorn.
Wildlife experts from Camp Ripley will also present a slideshow on black bears and volunteers will be rewarded at the end of the afternoon with root beer floats.
The work session will last from noon to 3 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 3 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Great River/Great People Resource Partnership, The Nature Conservancy, Camp Ripley, the Pine Grove Park Zoological Society, and the city of Little Falls.
