Annual drive set
to collect winter coats
The ninth annual Subway Tote a Coat drive begins Nov. 4 at more than 245 participating area Subway restaurants.
People are asked to bring clean winter coats in good condition to any participating Subway restaurant on Nov. 4. In return for donations, contributors will receive one free regular six-inch Subway sandwich.
The Tote a Coat program was developed in 1992 by area Subway restaurants to address the need for warm coats. Since the program began, more than 1 million coats have been collected. Coats collected in this year's effort will be distributed to shelters, charities, churches and others in need of warm outerwear.
Participating Subway restaurants include locations at Washington Street in Brainerd and Highway 371 North, as well as restaurants in Pierz, Randall, Staples and Wadena.
Second half property
taxes due Oct. 15
Second half property taxes are due Oct. 15, Laureen Borden, Crow Wing County treasurer, announced recently.
Payments made after Oct. 15 will have a penalty assessed. If mailed, timeliness is determined by the postmark. Owners of agricultural land being used for that purpose and with a specific classification and mobile homes classified as personal property have a later due date for the second half property taxes.
Taxes are payable by mail or in person to the county treasurer's office, Crow Wing County Courthouse, 326 Laurel St., Brainerd, MN 56401-3591.
