MILACA -- The Staples-Motley Cardinals boys' cross country running team, ranked second in the state, won the Princeton Invitation meet held Saturday at the Milaca Government Center. The eighth ranked Cardinal girls' team finished fourth.
Ryan Davis of Carlton Wrenshall won the event with a time of 16:09. The Cardinals best performance was by Jeff Brever whose time of 16:19 earned him a third-place finish. Other top peformers for the Staples-Motley boyes included Ryan Klingaman, ninth place, and Jacob Huebsch tenth.
In the girls' competition, Cardinal Liza Milless came in the twelth position, touring the course in 15:25.
"There were more than 4,000 runners here," said Staples-Motley head coach Gene Mattila. "This performance will put us back ahead of Panesville who had passed us in the rankings. Our girls ran a great race also. They finished fourth out of almost 70 teams. We can still improve quite a bit, but the team is excited about the way they ran."
