EAST GULL LAKE - Sharen Ann Eide Oates, resident of Superior, Wis., and East Gull Lake, Minn., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at her East Gull Lake home.
Sharen grew up in the West, completing grade school and high school in California, Idaho and Oregon. Sharen completed registered nurse undergraduate work in Virginia. She started her life and career in Minnesota in approximately 1968, working as a nurse in Brainerd and Onamia. She found her true calling when she started working in Duluth with the Detox Center. She met her husband, Bill, at this time. Sharen's Duluth years were from 1973 to present. She loved higher education and earned extensive degrees from the UMD and St. Scholastica. She completed her career as a C.O.O. of Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment-Duluth, Minn.

Survivors include her father, George Eide and stepmom, Evelyn Eide; brother, Terrence (Mary) Eide; sister, Sylvia "Cookie" (Joe) Graba; loving nephews and nieces, Jess, Jeff, Erik, Jody and Anna; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and 36 years of loyal friends at her Duluth Detox and Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment. Her dog kids, Bo and Cookie, greatly miss her.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Luella Johnson Eide; and her husband, William "Bill" Oates.
Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with visitation beginning the hour before the service.
