Bethany Good Samaritan Society Auxiliary will host its annual pie social and silent auction Wednesday in the community room.

The pie social will be 2-4 p.m. A slice of pie and coffee will cost $3. Silent auction winners will be announced at 4 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Bethany's Aquarium Lounge that is expected to be completed in time for the Founder's Day Celebration Service set at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethany Chapel.

Those interested in donating to the aquarium fund may do so by sending a tax-deductible contribution to Bethany, 804 Wright St., Brainerd, MN 56401.

Fall arts and crafts show planned

The fall arts and crafts festival will be 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Brainerd High School, 702 S. Fifth St., Brainerd. Use north or south doors. There will be more than 150 exhibitors. Free admission. The event is sponsored by Brainerd School District Community Education.

Deerwood Lakes Lions Club scholarships

DEERWOOD - The Deerwood Lakes Lions Club will offer three $500 scholarships to non-traditional students for the spring of 2010.

A Deerwood Lakes Lions Club Scholarship is awarded only to a pre-registered student and must be used for the spring semester of 2010. Applicants must be 23 years of age or older. The applicant must also reside in Crow Wing County or Aitkin County.

The scholarship recipient is determined by the applicant's academic record, involvement in community activities, probable success in their chosen field and the demonstrated need or financial assistance. The decision of the scholarship committee is final.

Applications are available in the Career Center at Central Lakes College, the Aitkin Chamber of Commerce, the Deerwood Bank and the Crosby-Ironton Courier.

All materials must be postmarked no later than Dec. 15.
