GARRISON -- Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison will sponsor an old-fashioned homemade chicken dinner from 4-7 p.m. or until gone on Oct. 1. The meal will include oven fried chicken, real mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, homemade coleslaw, rolls, homemade apple pie and beverages.
Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children, 12 and under.
Light of the Cross is located two blocks west of the Super Valu, next to the VFW, in Garrison.
This meal is fashioned after the famous chicken dinners served at Emmanual Lutheran Church of Platte Lake, the roots of Light of the Cross Church.
'50's Nostalgia Party at CCC
NISSWA -- The third annual '50's nostalgia party at Christ Community Church will be 5 p.m. Saturday. Burger baskets for $2.50 and hot dog baskets for $2 will be served. Spend the evening participating in a hula hoop contest, doing the limbo, bubble gum blowing contest, dancing and fun. Root beer floats will be served by Christ Community Church's soda jerk, Pastor Jim Rogers.
First Congregational Church raises funds
Attendance at a recent concert sponsored by First Congregational Church of Brainerd-United Church of Christ helped raise nearly $1,300 in contributions for Hurricane Katrina health and human services relief.
The Brothers Frantzich, well-known musicians and performing artists from the Twin Cities, recently appeared in Brainerd in an informal coffeehouse-type event.
Cooking for Everyone, a group of First Congregational volunteers, provided gourmet hors d'oeuvres and desserts, Rohlfing contributed a wine tasting and Confidence Learning Center donated facilities for the event.
The Frantzichs, who have been featured on MPR and on major performing stages, were joined by keyboardist Jeff Victor, accomplished performing artist and Timberwolves' musician, as well as a surprise guest appearance by an internationally recognized flutist from Nepal.
Fall pasty dinner
PEQUOT LAKES -- The fall pasty dinner at Grace United Methodist Church will be 5-7 p.m. Friday. The church is located two miles south of Pequot Lakes on Highway 371.
Cost for adults is $6; kids ages 6-12 are $3; and kids five and younger are free. Reservations not required. Eat in or take out.
Frozen pasties available for $4.
Renewal and healing service
First Lutheran Church of Brainerd is hosting a service of renewal and healing at 7 p.m. Thursday. All are welcome to join for this quiet time of prayer and contemplation.
Gospel Bluegrass concert in Crosslake
CROSSLAKE -- The Crosslake Christian Assembly of God Church will have their community gospel bluegrass night at 7 p.m. Sunday. Area musicians including members of the Espeseth Family, Backwoods Boys and other violin, mandolin, banjo and fiddle players will share in musical selections and a jam session.

Lutefisk and meatball supper
PEQUOT LAKES -- Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Pequot Lakes is having a lutefisk and meatball supper from 3-8 p.m. Saturday. This is a traditional lutefisk supper complete with lefse and all the trimmings. Tickets may only be purchased at the door. Cost for adults is $12; children ages 5-12, $5; and children four and under are free.
Parton to speak at fall rally
Craig Parton, trial lawyer from California, will speak at the Tell the Good News about Jesus fall rally from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Washington Middle School at 804 Oak Street in Brainerd. The event is sponsored by the Minnesota North District-LCMS.
With the theme "Defending Your Faith: What to Say When People Ask," Parton will discuss how defending the truth of Bible is powerful way to reach the unchurched, especially in today's culture of unbelief.
Congregation members, pastors, outreach leaders and youth groups are invited to attend the fall rally.
