Kristjana Evelyn Christianson was born on Feb. 6, 1924, in Mountain, N.D., the daughter of Larus E. and Kristbjorg Sigrun (Sveinson) Christianson. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth. She married Howard Lee Hartje on Nov. 20, 1942, in Crookston, Minn. After their marriage, they farmed for a while near St. Thomas, N.D., before moving to Brooklyn Park, where Howard worked as a carpenter. In 1978, Howard retired and they moved to Lake Shore. Evelyn's first priority was raising her family but she also had worked outside the home. Evelyn had been an active member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Pequot Lakes American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn and Howard were members of the Heartland Square Dancers and for years had enjoyed square dancing.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard, on Nov. 9, 2004; daughter, Leslie, granddaughter, Krisjana, and an infant granddaughter; and brothers, Arne, Elmo and Mayo. She is survived by her children, Diane (Jim) Achter, Minnetonka, Lynette, Nisswa, Wendy, Chicago, Wayne (Cheryl), Nisswa, Sandra (Matt) Dunn, Seattle, and Sheri, Anoka; 11 grandchildren; and sisters, Emily Morrison, Cavalier, N.D., and Ethel McMurchie, Seattle; and one brother, Ivan Guvjonson, Walhalla, N.D. Arrangements are with the Willim-St. Onge Family Funeral Home in Pequot Lakes.
