The vice chair of the Crow Wing County Republican Party should look in the mirror before accusing others of making mean-spirited claims for trying to correct her misrepresentation. What is mean-spirited is the Republican's cuts to nursing homes, senior programs, school programs to help children and health care for the poor. What is mean-spirited is to try and force mothers to have children they don't want and then cut state aid to feed these children or provide a home for them so they don't end up living on the street.
A good deed
I would like to send a very heartfelt thank you to the gentleman and young man that assisted me this past Saturday. I was having trouble with my vehicle in the Baxter Cub Foods parking lot, and these two wonderful individuals came to my rescue. (Along with my mother and my two children who also were with me.) They were both more than willing to help in getting my vehicle started. When asked if I could give them some money or repay them in any way, I was declined the gesture, but asked to just return the favor to someone else sometime. Thank you, once again, and I will pay it forward.
Why is the Brainerd School Board increasing taxes by $674,390 because of Gov. Pawlenty's budget cuts? We are being told he increased aid to education and didn't cut it. I would like to know where he increased spending this year over last year if he really did increase spending. For most people is it better to pay more property taxes or more income taxes by those making high incomes?
Thank you, Mr. Selk, for shutting down the sidelines at the Brainerd Warrior football game. Thank you for confusing all the Apollo fans on how to get to their sideline. Thank you for creating a play area at the west end of the field for our children to beat on each other. They say you closed the track because too many problems with the kids. Well, here's a suggestion. Why didn't you break up the group of privileged teachers who get to stand on the other side of the rope, not even watching the game, and put them to work.
You have done it three times now. You elected Bob Olson to the council, then you elected him mayor (defeated after one term) and now again to the council. Yes, citizens of Brainerd, you would think that you would have learned not to vote him into office. His agenda simply does not complement the city of Brainerd. It is time to get out, Mr. Olson. Just like you did on your self-serving TV program -- three strikes and you are out.
