Monday was Ruth Padgett's last day of work at the Brainerd Public Library. A librarian for the past 21 years, with most of that time spent in the Children's department, the 62-year-old Mrs. Padgett is retiring.

Ten weeks of story hours will start for children, three to five years old, at Brainerd Public Library. There will be two story hours each Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. Robert Miller, 1415 South Sixth Street, was named president of the Brainerd Area PTA Council at a meeting held last night.

Crow Wing County farmers reported to be "going out of business because of upsets due to the war," have sold from 35 to 40 farms.

J.P. Anderson, in a statement to The Dispatch, says that 50 additional men have been put to work at the Brainerd shops this morning, completing quite a large force there.

Con O'Brien, the enterprising and hustling merchant, has already let the contract for the erection of a modern two story brick block on Laurel Street, and men are at work already hauling stone.
