Police blotter
It was reported Friday a staff member's cell phone was stolen at Forestview Middle School, 12149 Knollwood Drive. A juvenile student was cited for theft.

Jobless rate mostly down in lakes area
The unemployment rate in most Brainerd lakes area counties continued to fall last month, but the rate in each area county - not seasonally adjusted - remains above the statewide average of 7.6 percent.

SEPTEMBER 21 - 60 years ago (1949) - Indications that an inadequate system of accounting was employed by the Brainerd School District were revealed today following an audit by the state public examiner. The superintendent and board are already taking steps to rectify the problems.

Clyde R. Bye
Clyde Richard (Dick) Bye, 85, Brainerd, passed on to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009. He married Vivian Blettner on May 24, 1947, in Minneapolis. He was an electrician and an inventor. He was a member of the electric union. He loved flying and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was also involved with beekeeping for many years.

EAST GULL LAKE - Sharen Eide Oates, age 63, resident of Duluth-Superior and East Gull Lake, Minn., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at her East Gull Lake Home.

Mary Patricia "Pat" Galligan, 74 years, died Sept. 18, 2009, at the University of Minneapolis, due to complications from cancer.
